Multi-step sequences

Instead of a single DM, chain multiple messages, waits, and conditions to follow up with your leads intelligently.

A sequence turns a simple automation into a real follow-up scenario. Instead of sending a single DM and letting the lead vanish, you can chain steps: wait 2 days, check if they replied, send a different follow-up depending on their status, etc.

Simple vs complex sequences

Simple sequences

A linear chain of steps: DM β†’ wait β†’ follow-up. Perfect for re-engaging a lead who hasn't replied, without conditional logic.

Complex sequences

Conditional branches, splits, variable delays, and the ICP scanner that filters leads against your target. The sequence adapts to each lead's profile and behavior.

The ICP scanner (Ideal Customer Profile)

The ICP scanner is the filter that stops your sequence from firing on every commenter. You define your target (job title, industry, company size, seniority, headline keywords, etc.), and only leads that match move to the next step.

In practice, you drop an ICP node right after the trigger. For each captured lead, Lead Gravity pulls their LinkedIn profile (title, company, industry), scores the match against your criteria, then decides:

  • Match: the lead continues through the sequence (DM, follow-ups, etc.)
  • No match: the lead is skipped or routed to an "unqualified" branch

The result: fewer DMs sent, but only to ultra-qualified profiles. Reply rates skyrocket and you protect your LinkedIn account from wasted outreach.

Node types available

  • DM: send a direct message
  • Comment reply: reply publicly under the comment
  • Connection request: send a LinkedIn invitation
  • Wait: pause X hours or days before the next step
  • ICP filter: only let leads matching your target move forward
  • Condition: branch on "replied", "accepted connection", "1st degree", etc.

Common use cases

Here are the most popular scenarios users build:

Silent follow-up (simple)

Initial DM with your resource β†’ wait 3 days β†’ if no reply, follow up with an open question.

Out-of-network β†’ connect β†’ DM (complex)

If the lead isn't connected: send a connection request β†’ wait 2 days β†’ if accepted, send the DM. Otherwise, follow up via comment.

Long-form nurture (complex)

A 4–5 message chain spread over 3 weeks, with a branch at each step depending on whether the lead replied or not.

Best practices

  • Stop at 3 follow-ups. Beyond that, reply rates drop and you risk being marked as spam.
  • Space steps at least 24h apart. LinkedIn flags rapid-fire sending.
  • Vary the tone across messages. The 2nd follow-up should bring new value, not repeat the 1st.
  • Branch on "replied" to stop the sequence as soon as a real conversation starts.

Plan limits

Simple sequences (linear, no conditions) are included from the Starter plan. Complex sequences (with conditional branches and splits) require the Pro or Pro Max plan.
